Growing Region

The Sonoma Coast is one of the premier growing regions for Chardonnay in the world.  Coastal temperatures remain cool throughout the summer, which is a key component in growing world class Chardonnay.  The coastal range of mountains, east of the Russian River, provide a barrier that protects the region from hot weather during the summer months. The region receives about 40 inches of rain a year and thus most vineyards need little irrigation throughout the year.

The Vineyard

The soils mainly consist of the Goldridge series, which is like a fine make-up. The soils are well drained which leads balanced and highly concentrated fruit.  Temperatures remain consistent throughout the growing season which ensures a long growing season that results with plenty of hang-time.  Clone selection is extremely important because some provide structure and others provide aromatics which are important to have during blending.
The Sonoma Coast has been growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for well over 100 years and is one of the premier regions in the world.

The Wine

The 2014 Chardonnay delivers an intense fragrance featuring peaches and figs, pretty spice notes and subtle floral quality.  The wine is perfectly balanced with luscious flavors of apple and melon, tropical fruits and hints of citrus.  It has a long finish, vanilla and spice notes and just the right amount of body and lushness.

Our fruit is harvested in the early morning hours and whole-cluster pressed.  A large percentage of the wine is then barrel fermented to achieve richness and bring out notes of vanilla and spice. The remaining wine is fermented in stainless steel for a touch of vibrant acidity, which helps create a beautiful balance.  The wine also undergoes partial malolactic fermentation for a creamy mouthfeel.

The 2014 was an excellent vintage because of the steady, mild temperatures that persisted throughout summer. From it emerged fruit that has a luscious texture, ideal balance, and profuse aromatics, making it one of the best vintages of the decade.
