July 21, 2015 – If you find yourself in a constant battle to feed your kids their greens, it might be time to revamp your salad repertoire. Creating a build-your-own salad bar is a creative way to involve the kids at dinner time. Follow our kid-friendly tips:
Taco Salad Bar
Set up taco ingredients—meat, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, sour cream and salsa—bar-style, creating an easy way for the kids to walk through the line, creating their own taco salad. The kids will have so much fun crafting this hands-on meal that they’ll be going up for seconds!
For a salad bar that has just as much color as flavor, line up ingredients for this Rainbow Cobb Salad from I Am Baker. Or, if your family has a particularly strong sweet tooth, a rainbow fruit salad might be your best bet! Lay out strawberries, oranges, bananas, kiwi, blueberries and purple grapes to touch on every color. What could be better than an edible rainbow?
Protein-Packed Salad Bar
For a protein-packed meal that will keep your family full, pick 3-4 types of your kids’ favorite protein such as diced chicken, hard boiled eggs, quinoa, cheese and nuts. Portion out each protein into bowls along with veggies you know your kids enjoy. Set up your ingredients bar-style and watch the salad-making-magic happen.
