October 18, 2016 – Leslee here from Amusée! I’m the official ALDI Sommelier and a contributor to the Simply Smarter Living blog. Today I’m back with some pretty exciting news from the ALDI Wine Cellar. Are you ready for this?
Every year Wine Enthusiast magazine creates one of the wine worlds’ most anticipated, value-driven award lists: The Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Best Buys of the Year. This year, the Top 100 Best Buys List included wines from more than 17 countries and more than 30 grape varietals.
With so many wines to taste from around the globe and in the wine aisles, it is with extreme honor…drumroll please…that ALDI proudly announces their 2013 Broken Clouds Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir ranked #22 on this year’s list! This is the first year an ALDI wine has landed a spot on this prestigious, professional wine list, making this one of the biggest award any ALDI wine has received.
Are you wondering how these wines make the cut? Every year, the team at the coveted wine magazine carefully analyzes and tastes 21,000 (!) wines from every country, grape variety and styles. Wine must be priced at $15 or less per bottle and must meet a certain “quality-to-price ratio.” That means that the wine must either come directly in line or exceed the price you paid for the wine. Standards are based on smell, taste and overall profile.
For just $14, the Broken Clouds Pinot Noir is truly one of those wines that will have you wondering after the first sip if you paid double for it. Talk about a “quality-to-price ratio” wine! Dark and textured with bits of bright cherry, mulled cranberry spice and lifted orange peel, I often enjoy this Pinot Noir with a variety of bites. From first dates to ordering pizza on a Tuesday nights (you know those nights), this Pinot Noir pairs with any midweek meal (from tacos to pot roast) or special weekend occasion. I can guarantee you, those enticing notes of warm red berry fruit of this newly announced Wine Enthusiast’s award-winning Pinot Noir will have you reaching for only one thing…more! Enjoy this gorgeous “step into fall” red with friends and family this weekend.
Clink, Clink and cheers to your new favorite red!
